Travertine Cleaning

Dirty and stubborn surfaces are a common occurrence with most travertine floors, this is because natural stones such as travertine develop pits over time, attracting dirt and grease into its pores. As you would imagine, it is not an indestructible material despite what the manufacturers say. Over the years of use (sometimes a lot less), the surface of your travertine can begin to lose it’s finish. When a tile floor begins to lose that sheen it once had, it will start to allow debris to settle down into its microscopic crevices. This is usually something that people don’t notice because it typically happens over an extended period of time.

When a travertine surface is hazy and rough from years of use, oftentimes a pressure wash and extraction will not work by itself. You’ll need a dual process cleaning using a rotary floor machine, this is really the only effective way to clean travertine tile. The tile surface and how stubborn it is to cleaning, should be a deciding factor for what type of pad should be used with a rotary floor machine. Most commonly, an 80 grit brush pad is used for travertine cleaning however that is of course subject to change.
